Japan will resume whaling in the Southern Oceans

In 1999, 11% of Japanese adults opposed whaling, while only 14% supported it. What happened to the other 75%? In different I suppose? In another poll by Asahi Shimbun in Feb. 2008, a telephone poll of 2,082, 56% were in favor of eating whale meat, and 26% opposed it.

I think more older Japanese support whaling and more younger Japanese oppose it?

From the 2008 poll, the 56% which supported whaling were men in their 40's and above. Younger Japanese - particularly women - were opposed to the practice.

In a WikiLeaks document shows the U.S. and Japan conspired to legalize whaling and take down Sea Shepherd. President Obama supported Japan's effort on this, so the shame is not only on the heads of the Japanese.

In a November 9, 2009 cable, Japan says that once a compromise with the U.S. is reached, the U.S. government "would then work hard to make sure the EU and Australia do not block a compromise" to legalize commercial whaling.

The international moratorium is just a "big joke" or at best a cloak and behind which countries like Japan, and even America, are doing their own wheeling and dealing. It should be scrapped and whaling should be called for what it is, hunting and killing of whales for consumption by humans, and cats, and not washed off as scientific research.
